This project aims to develop an environmentally friendly and effective bionematicide formulation based on the nematode-trapping fungi Drechslerella dactyloides B-Ce-12 and Arthrobotrys thaumasia I-Y4-21 isolates to be used in the biological control of the root-knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita, which causes significant yield losses, particularly in vegetable production; the project also seeks to reduce the use of chemical nematicides while supporting environmental sustainability in agriculture.
In the project, formulations of nematode-trapping fungal isolates obtained from local sources will be prepared using different carriers and media; the efficacy of these formulations will be evaluated under controlled conditions and in greenhouse trials on tomato plants against Meloidogyne incognita.
As an alternative to chemical control against root-knot nematodes, the widespread use of locally sourced isolates of Drechslerella dactyloides B-Ce-12 and Arthrobotrys thaumasia I-Y4-21 as biological control agents, particularly in greenhouse cultivation, will contribute to the protection of human health, the maintenance of ecological balance, the reduction of environmental impacts, and the national economy. Furthermore, the project has significant potential to generate reliable and applicable data for improving product quality and yield in organic agriculture.
